Doctoral Research Fellowships in the project Discourses of the Nation and the National - Two Positions

Two positions as PhD research fellows (SKO 1017) in the project Discourses of the Nation and the National are available in the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages (ILOS) at the University of Oslo (UiO). We seek PhD candidates with excellent research qualifications that will contribute to the project.

Successful proposals must develop independent projects that lie within the scope of the project Discourses of the Nation and the National. They must concentrate on identity construction in one or more discourse types (e.g., media, political discourse, institutional discourse, literature, academic discourse, cultural and social criticism, or other discourse types) in the past or present, or both, and on the relation between discourse and its sociocultural context. The proposals should apply discourse analysis, narrative analysis, other types of text analysis, or other suitable clearly outlined theories and methods. The region(s) and political units studied must be within the research scope of ILOS and the empirical material in one or more of the following languages: Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, English, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. Comparative and interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged.

The persons appointed will be affiliated with the Faculty's organized research training. The academic work is to result in a doctoral thesis that will be defended at the Faculty with a view to obtaining the degree of PhD. The successful candidate is expected to join the existing research milieu or network and contribute to its developement. Read more about the doctoral degree.

The appointment is for a duration of three years.
