The Centre for Catalan Studies is organising an international conference on Catalan cinema that will be held on 30 November - 1 December 2012 at Queen Mary University of London.
From the silent films of the early 20th-century to contemporary documentaries focusing on various aspects of historical memory and the political construction of illness, cinema is an integral part of Catalan culture. The aim of this conference is to bring together scholars working in the UK and overseas in order to discuss their research on Catalan cinema.
Proposals for papers are invited on these topics: the concept of national cinema in the context of globalisation; silent films; avant-garde films; film adaptations of Catalan or non-Catalan literary texts; the (re-)construction of the historical past; and discourses on identity, illness and trauma.
Proposals for papers: Please email a 200-word abstract in English or in Catalan to Xelo Sanmateu, Ester Pou or Jordi Larios by 15 August 2012.
